CAPS for the Intermediate Phase provides structured guidance for teaching Grades 4–6, ensuring clear learning goals, balanced assessments, and a strong foundation for future academic development.

A single comprehensive Curriculum and Assessment Policy document was developed for each subject to replace Subject Statements, Learning Programme Guidelines and Subject Assessment Guidelines in Grades R-12.

The National Curriculum Statements (NCS) Grades R–12 provide a structured framework guiding teaching and learning in South African schools.

They outline essential knowledge, skills, and values for each grade, ensuring quality and consistency. The NCS supports effective teaching, promotes critical thinking, and prepares learners for further education and responsible citizenship.
